OpenSB is a skateboarding collective. We are a bunch of skateboarders who release work, collaborate, and support one another.

Welcome! You’re receiving this newsletter because sometimes in the past… decade [yep!], you interacted with Krak, KrakBox or any other OpenSB members.
So first and foremost, if skateboarding isn’t your thing anymore - which happens to cool people of course - you can very easily unsubscribe at the bottom of this email [one click, easy]. No hard feelings whatsoever so don’t hesitate 😎
If you're still into skateboarding though, well (a) we’re psyched (b) welcome on board. You can continue reading and trust me, this newsletter should resonate. I’ll keep that one short I promise.
Last but not least, if you know someone who is passionate as well, please, share it. The more the merrier.
What’s OpenSB?
OpenSB stands for Open Skateboarding. It is not a company. It’s an online community with a shared bank account, funded by its members. Legally, OpenSB is an unincorporated non-profit.
You can think of OpenSB as an incubator for skateboarding ideas. Our goal is to create a common good for the whole community, truly owned by everyone.
How can I join? and what does it mean to be part of this collective?
We’d love to see you contribute. We manage the common treasury in a fully transparent way on our Open Collective page.
You can make a custom one-time or recurring contribution; and/or become a member for as little as $50 a year. Being an OpenSB member brings many benefits such as: exclusive skate items and prices in our shop (for american folks: think Sam's Club or Costco but for skateboarding); a private space to meet and collaborate with other members (imagine our own private Couchsurfing) and many more to come.
Beyond all of this? Members will collectively vote on how OpenSB uses its funds.
What should I expect out of this newsletter?
This newsletter is meant to become the collective voice of the OpenSB community. You can expect some members stories, interviews with longtime skateboarders, brand founders and so on. Overall: a diverse and fresh angle on the skateboarding news and community as a whole.
All members have the opportunity to participate and write this very newsletter (sent to a couple thousands skaters already). So we'll practice altogether in the upcoming months, experiment with different sections and iterate from there.
Your feedback is always much welcome so please, never hesitate to reply. We're excited.
Cool links we’ve enjoyed recently
Here’s a genuine and wonderful discussion between The Mostly Skateboarding crew and Dr. Indigo Willing and Anthony Pappalardo about their new book: Skateboarding Power And Change. We definitely recommend to give that one a listen.
If you prefer reading about it, here's Anthony giving more details 👇
And while we're still here, we can't recommend enough
